Living in a country that has an official language you are not most comfortable with, makes you realize that there are quite a few aspects of communication that are universal.
We have all been taught that mathematics is the universal language of the world. I believe there are other universal languages or communications. For instance, when you meet a person (I meet a lot of moms on playgrounds, and there is a code between house moms (house dads) – it is something to do with the fact that we are all in this (parenthood) together – don`t know why but there is a code between mom on a playground, you can feel it in the air, you can almost touch it) and you can either smile and nod or look at them angry. They will understand the message. No words are necessary. Just like listening to laughter of people – I find it amazing that people everywhere laugh the same way (well there are variations – but nothing major). Laughing is a universal language – when you see someone laughing you know he is happy, no words are necessary.

It is like when I am practicing karate. A soon as I put on my kimono in a dojo, I feel at home like no other place in Germany (well except our apartment – but I consider our apartment a Slovenian exclave in Germany, so that doesn`t count). They could speak Zulu and I would still understand what I am supposed to do. It is a great feeling. Karate is a universal body language. It is the same with most sports probably – just look at soccer. The same could not be said about cricket – who understands cricket really!?
Then there is nature. Nature and its animals are universal – the ducks in Germany make the same sounds as the ducks in Slovenia. They do not sound German at all. Why is that?

When you look at the video above of how German pronunciation is different from other languages, you realize that the language somehow reflects the nature of a nation (the easy going nature of Mediterranean people or the regal nature of English people, and the strict, hoarse nature of Germans).

Today we were looking at some Chinese Muntjac deer and the kids were talking to it in Slovenian, calling her to us. And I wanted to tell them that they can`t understand us, because we are talking in Slovenian and not in German. Silly right, or is it?! A German dog will probably not understand the command in Slovenian language. Right!? But some ducks definitely understood us when we brought out some bread. Food, there is »language« everybody, even German ducks understand. We were best friends immediately.

Univerzalnost po slovensko:
Če živiš v državi, katere uradni jezik ti ni najbolj pri srcu, se kmalu zaveš, da obstaja kar nekaj univerzalnih načinov sporazumevanja.
Vse so nas učili, da je matematika univerzalni jezik sveta. Sam verjamem, da so tudi drugi načini komuniciranj, ki bi jih lahko šteli za univerzalne. Na primer, ko srečaš nekoga (sam srečam veliko mamic na igrišču. Med nami (mamami in očki, ki doma pazimo otroke in se redno srečujemo na igriščih), obstajajo nepisana pravila, uzance igrišč. Ta pravila lahko skoraj začutiš, ko stopiš na igrišče) ni treba drugega kot, da se pogledamo in se nasmejimo, nekako pokimamo, ali pa se grdo pogledamo in že vemo pri čem smo. Ni treba izmenjevati besed.
Podobno je, ko grem na trening karateja. Takoj, ko si oblečem kimono v klubu, se počutim doma bolj, kot kjerkoli drugje v Nemčiji (z izjemo našega stanovanja – čeprav smatram naše stanovanje kot slovensko eksklavo v Nemčiji, zato to ne šteje). Na treningu bi lahko govorili Zulu in bi jih še vedno popolnoma v redu razumel. Super občutek. Karate je univerzalni telesni govor. Verjetno je enako pri vseh športih – samo poglejte nogomet. Ne morem pa trditi isto za kriket – sploh ne vem kdo zares razume kriket, razen Angležev.
In potem je tukaj narava. Narava in živali v njej so univerzalne – na primer, race v Nemčiji delajo iste zvoke, kot race v Sloveniji. Sploh se jim ne pozna, da so nemške race. Zakaj je temu tako?
Poglejte si video na povezavi zgoraj in tam lahko dobro vidite kako se razlikujejo različni jeziki tudi pri izgovorjavi in telesni govorici med govorom (sicer zelo karikirano). Dobro se vidi telesna govorica npr. ljudi iz Sredozemlja, ali kraljevska narava angleškega govora in seveda klena, surova narava nemškega jezika.
Danes smo opazovali kitajske Muntjake. Ko sta se živali približali ograji, sta ju otroka poskušala ogovarjati. Pa sem jima skoraj začel razlagati, da ju ne razumeta, ker govorimo po slovensko, sem se ustavil in malce zamislil. Neumno ne, da razmišljam o tem. Ampak nemški pes verjetno ne bo razumel ukaza po slovensko, kaj ne?! So pa bile tam neke race, ki so nas popolnoma dobro razumele, ko smo jim začeli metati koščke kruha. Hrana, to je »jezik«, ki ga vsi dobro razumemo, tudi nemške race. Smo bili takoj najboljši prijatelji, samo zgornjo sliko si poglejte.
