In the rain / V dežju

The weather left us no other choice. We geared up and went for it. Aaaaand, we were back in one hour, most of which the kids were safely tucked under a waterproof cover of the stroller and daddy was out in the rain pushing the stroller. Even the fish in the water didn`t lure the kids out for too long. This is what happened during our rainy trek:

Not exactly an adventure, right. So we didn`t enjoy ourselves nearly as much as this guy:

On days like this there is one thing I like doing the most and haven`t been doing it since I became a father. Can you guess what it is?

Playing video games. For me there is nothing better than playing video games all day and night during a rainy season. This takes me back to the first computer my brother and I had – the Commodore +4. I still like to reminisce on the hours we spent in front of that TV and tape recorder loading the games. For anyone who missed it, it looked like this:

Crazy right! The one game I remember the most because we played it so much, is Tom Thumb, that was something like an Indiana Jones video game. Now that I look at it, I realize that our imagination filled up all that was missing in the graphics and game-play.

Today`s games need no imagination, because they are done better than anyone of us could ever imagine it, but it is harder to find games that I really enjoy. But with the right company I still have the same fun at it as I used to. The sad thing is that there are less and less people I know that even take you seriously when you propose to play games the entire day. One of the rare individuals (I admit it, he is THE only one) that does not laugh at the prospect of spending a day gaming is my friend and colleague Aleš, who is a lawyer. Before we left Slovenia, there was one occasion of our video game playing marathon (we are kind of obsessed with the game Basara for Wii) that went into the books. We were so occupied with our thing that we forgot to answer our phones. So much so, that my friend Tine had to come over to my house to check up on us, thinking that something has happened.

There are not a lot of days in this time of our lives when you can just spent a day doing nothing. Today, I miss those days.

Aprilsko vreme konec maja v slovenščini:

Vreme nam ni pustilo druge izbire, kot da smo se odpravili ven – v dežju. Smo se primerno oblekli in se podali v vlago. In?! In, smo se vrnili po dobri uri, pri čemer sta bila otroka večino tega časa lepo na suhem v vozičku pod nepremočljivo prevleko, ati pa na mokrem, saj je moral porivati voziček. Še ribe niso bile dovolj zanimive, da bi privabile otroke na plano za dlje časa. Vse kar se je zanimivega zgodilo, je prikazano na zgornjih štirih slikicah.

Ni ravno huda dogodivščina. Tako se nismo niti približno tako zabavali v dežju kot GeneKelly na zgornjem posnetku (grem stavit, da ste že na podlagi naslova uganili, da bom objavil ta video).

Ob takih dnevih si želim, da bi lahko delal nekaj, kar sem, preden sem postal oče. Ali lahko uganete, kaj bi lahko bilo?

Igranje video igric. Zame ni boljšega kot igrati video igrice cel dan in celo noč, ko zunaj dežuje. To me spominja na čas, ko sva z bratom dobila svoj prvi računalnik – komodor 4. Še sedaj se z veseljem spominjam ur, ki sva jih preživela pred televizijo in kasetnikom. Če je kdo zamudil to obdobje, naj si pogleda drugi posnetek zgoraj, da bo dobil občutek, kako je vse skupaj izgledalo.

Noro, a ne! Ena od iger, ki se je najbolj spominjam, ker sva jo tolikokrat igrala, je Tom Thumb (glej tretji posnetek zgoraj), ki je bila nekakšna Indiana Jones igrica. Ko ga gledam sedaj, se zavedam, da je bilo treba z domišljijo ustrezno nadomestiti tisto kar je igricam primanjkovalo pri grafiki in igralnosti.

Današnje igre od igralcev več ne zahtevajo lastnega vložka domišljije, saj so vizualno lepše, kot bi si jih lahko kadarkoli sami zamislili, ampak vseeno težje najdem igro v kateri resnično uživam. Kljub temu, s pravo družbo, še vedno znam uživati v dnevu igranja kot nekoč v otroških dnevih. Žalostno je samo, da je zelo malo ljudi, ki jih poznam, da bi bili pripravljeni resno sprejeti ponudbo za igranje igric. Ena redkih oseb (v redu, EDINA oseba), ki je še vedno pripravljena z mano presedeti dan in noč pred ekranom, je moj prijatelj in kolega Aleš, ki je odvetnik. Preden smo odšli iz Slovenije, sva en dan, ko je bila Paula odsotna z otroki, tako vneto igrala, da sva pozabila na svoje telefone in zunanji svet. Tako zelo, da je moral moj prijatelj Tine, na pozive Paule priti osebno preveriti, če se mi slučajno ni kaj zgodilo.

V trenutnem obdobju življenja redko najdem priložnost, da v prazno zabijem dan. Danes, pogrešam te dneve.
